Taking Ooni from SAP to NetSuite in eight months
Ooni had outgrown SAP Business One, and testing had always been done by business users alongside their day jobs. We tested NetSuite against how Ooni actually trades, end to end, and showed stakeholders exactly where quality and risk stood.
The challenge
Ooni, the Edinburgh-based maker of outdoor pizza ovens, grew fast during Covid. SAP Business One could no longer keep up, so Ooni chose NetSuite. There was no formal test process to build on.
They needed:
- NetSuite tested against how Ooni trades, not just against the design.
- Orders flowing end to end, from Shopify through NetSuite to third-party logistics (3PL) partners in markets including the US, Australia and New Zealand.
- A clear view of quality and residual risk ahead of go-live.
Our approach
- A month of discovery, then a test strategy, processes and tooling built from scratch, including Jira and Xray.
- 569 end-to-end test scenarios built from Ooni's business requirements and signed off by the business.
- Data migration testing, so every connected system held the data real processes need.
- Regular reporting on progress, quality and the risk that remained.
Alongside the implementation partner
The implementation partner tested that NetSuite worked as designed. We took Ooni's business requirements and tested the joins: orders coming in from Shopify, through the Boomi integration layer, into NetSuite and out to the 3PLs.
Prioritising what mattered on day one
As in most ERP programmes, the timeline was tight. We worked with Ooni to prioritise order to cash, the processes that had to work from the first day, and kept stakeholders clear on progress and risk at every stage.
Impact
- 55 critical defects found before they reached production, including a US tax issue.
- Stakeholders could see the current level of quality and residual risk throughout the programme.
- A fully documented end-to-end test pack, handed over in Ooni's own Jira and Xray, ready to reuse for future changes.
- Ooni live on NetSuite eight months after discovery began.

"It is clear that Spike offers a really useful and well-oiled service. They are always willing to suggest ways to overcome problems and accommodate our needs. Nice to work with!"
Another move to NetSuite
Lovehoney brought its UK business onto NetSuite with no ERP testing in place.

Not on NetSuite?
The platform here was NetSuite. The approach works for any ERP that has to talk to a storefront, a warehouse and a finance team.
